There are endless reasons for you to visit the Northwestern Greece and the region of Thesprotia. If you are a first-time visitor in Thesprotia, the beautiful city of Igoumenitsa is a good start. The city, capital of the Regional Unit of Thesprotia, is known for hosting the most important port – “gateway” to Western Europe, as well as the starting-point of Egnatia Odos (a 680 km modern motorway that runs across 11 Greek prefectures before it ends to Kipoi on the Turkish borders).

If you are longing for the tranquil charm of an authentic fishing village, you have to visit Plataria. No matter what time of the year you’re visiting, this place is worth checking out for its fresh fish and tasteful seafood, all served on seaside small restaurants. However, if the relaxation isn’t what you’re after, our beautiful Sivota with its formation of lush islands has it all: a picturesque village by the sea, the most amazing beaches and a vibrant night life for every taste. Walking away from Sivota, where should you venture next? Try our mountainous destination, Perdika, a traditional village that boasts the wild beauty of the mountain and the Blue Flag beaches. Speaking of inland and must sees you should spend some time visiting the Venetian castle of Margariti, as well as the Ancient Fanoti (Doliani) in Parapotamos where it is said to be the siege of the Fanotians, a Thesprotian tribe.

Wander through the streets of Paramythia for the best insight into the region’s past, embrace the rare feeling of being one with the nature on the banks of Acheron (“river of sighs”) in Glyki, get in touch with our glorious past in Souli and feel rejuvenated and grateful for having experienced the stunning scenery of our hidden small waterfalls in Myloi Souliou.

If on the other hand, you want to take a more in-depth look of what Thesprotia has to offer, don’t forget to check out Filiates, home of Gitana-ancient capital of the Thesprotians and political and cultural center of that era. Since you are here, we recommend a refreshing visit to the Monastery of Giromeri, one of the most important monastic centers of the region. Built on a cliff side since the 14^th century by Saint Nilos the Erihiotis, it’s a not to be missed rejuvenating destination.
